Upon invitation of the Universidad Diego Partales (UDP, Santiago de Chile), Hermann J. Abs contributed to an international symposium on citizenship education in times of uncertainty. The presentation addressed the question of how the perspective on political education in the digital sphere has changed over the past 20 years. A distinction was drawn between a focus on opportunities for participation and a focus on risks arising from algorithmic control of information. The discussion centred on how these two aspects can be appropriately incorporated into international studies on citizenship education.
