Demokratie an Schulen entlang der Donau

Keynote speech at the symposium “Democracy in Schools along the Danube”

Democracy projects in schools along the Danube were the focus of the symposium, to which teachers from Baden-Württemberg and a total of 14 Danube countries were invited to participate in the Don@u-Online 2026 project “Democracy – made in Europe!”. In this context, Prof. Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg gave an online keynote speech on the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) entitled “How are young people prepared for their role as citizens, and how will they be prepared in the future?”

In her presentation, she focused on the perspectives, school experiences and learning opportunities that students report in relation to political content, controversy and participation, paying particular attention to the results of the Danube countries that participated in ICCS 2022. Together with the participants, she then discussed ways of strengthening civic and citizenship education in schools.
